Year 10 Chemistry Main Lesson: From Experiment to Presentation

Sep 10, 2026 7:02 AM

As part of their Year 10 Chemistry Main Lesson, students explored the properties and behaviour of salt through hands-on experimentation, investigating how it interacts with water and colour.

Students conducted a series of experiments using watercolours and salt, observing how the salt affected the movement and drying of the colours. The resulting artworks will become the title pages of their Main Lesson books, providing a creative record of their practical learning.

Students were also tasked with Salt Chemistry posters, displaying their research and findings through informative posters, which they presented to fellow students and teachers. The Overture Hall foyer became an open exhibition, with visitors invited to walk through the displays, ask questions and discuss the students’ observations and conclusions.

Alongside developing their scientific knowledge, the Main Lesson provided an opportunity to practise communicating ideas, presenting information and responding confidently to questions. These experiences help students develop the clarity, confidence and interpersonal skills they will carry into further study, the workplace and everyday life.
