Our History

From humble beginnings, growing with purpose since 1981.

In August 1981, Orana Steiner School opened its doors in the YMCA Hall in Yarralumla with just three students and one pioneering teacher. From these humble beginnings, a small group of families came together with a shared belief in Steiner education, where learning nurtures each child's intellectual, emotional and practical development.

As the community grew, so did the school. In 1990, Orana moved to its permanent campus in Weston. Purposefully designed learning environments, set amongst beautiful bushland landscapes continued to enrich the educational experience.

More than four decades later, Orana Steiner School has grown into one of Canberra's largest independent school campuses, welcoming students from Early Childhood to Year 12. We are proud of our curriculum, traditions, community and the achievements of our alumni.

Whilst much has changed, our founding vision has remained the same: to inspire curious minds, compassionate hearts and capable hands of students within a connected and thriving community.
