Primary School - Kindergarten
Learning Through Imagination, Daily Rhythm and Discovery
Kindergarten at Orana Steiner School builds on the foundations of Early Childhood, gently guiding children towards the more structured learning environment of Primary School. Through play, imagination, movement and meaningful activities, children develop the confidence, curiosity and foundational skills for a successful transition into Year 1.

Our Daily Rhythm
Each day follows a consistent structured rhythm, thoughtfully balancing “breathing in” moments of focused, shared activities with “breathing out” opportunities for imaginative free play, movement and exploration.
This natural flow helps children feel secure, develop independence and engage confidently with the world around them. The magic to our program success lies in the thoughtful balance of environment, relationships, and intentional educational foundations.
Our Kindergarten rhythm includes:
- Welcome & free play - A gentle arrival, connection and time to settle into the day.
- Morning circle - Intentional educational songs, verses, movement and seasonal experiences.
- Outdoor exploration- Nature play, imagination and active movement.
- Morning tea - Often shared and enjoyed together.
- Practical and creative work - Baking, gardening, drawing, painting, craft and meaningful motor skill activities.
- Lunch & outdoor play - Gathering for meals followed by time to explore and play.
- Storytelling & quiet experiences - Stories, language, rest and moments of calm.
- Closing circle & farewell - A gentle ending to the day before returning home.
Children are gently encouraged and supported to participate in the daily rhythm program.
Please note: Kindergarten is a screen-free environment.
We warmly invite families to visit our Kindergarten classrooms, meet our teachers and experience how learning unfolds through rhythm, play and purposeful activities.
