Year 10 P.A.R.T.Y.

(Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth) Program at Canberra Hospital 

Nineteen Year 10 students attended the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth) Program at Canberra Hospital on Tuesday, 28 July. Throughout the day, students gained valuable insight into the devastating impact of road trauma, learning about the physical, emotional and social consequences of serious motor vehicle accidents and the lasting ripple effect these events have on individuals, families and the wider community. Students also heard from guest speaker Louise Ellery, who shared her powerful personal story. Following a serious car accident, Louise sustained a traumatic brain injury that dramatically changed her life and left her having to relearn many everyday tasks. Despite these challenges, she went on to become a four-time Paralympian in shot put, demonstrating extraordinary resilience and determination. The students represented Orana exceptionally well throughout the program, engaging respectfully and thoughtfully with all activities and presentations. The experience reinforced the importance of making safe, responsible decisions as passengers and future drivers, leaving students with a deeper understanding of the consequences that can result from poor choices on the road.
