Orana Craft Group

Ever wanted to learn how to make those lovely Steiner toys your children are playing with?  Want to earn your community hours meeting new friends and discovering new skills?  Come and try Orana Craft Group!

We meet in the Kurrajong craft room every second Saturday (see below for this term’s dates) and enjoy a cuppa and a chat at the Craft Group Cafe while creating marvellous items in the Steiner tradition.

We supply all the materials for you to make wonderful works of Steiner-inspired art for sale at the Spring Fair. And no need to worry if you are all thumbs – there are always plenty of helpers to support you and teach you the tricks that make the craft come together.

We’ve got lots of projects to work on, so if you are an old hand at craft, or if you have never tried DIY Steiner, come and join us – there is no nicer way to earn your community hours than filling the Craft Group stall. And we are always on the lookout for new creations - if you want to do your craft time at home, please get in touch with us through our mailbox. We particularly love to hear from woodworkers, as there appears to be an insatiable demand for handmade wooden Steiner toys!

Craft Group hours count for your community hours commitment on the same basis as other activities around the school.  You will need to update your hours online weekly, and one of the co-ordinators then signs them off. You are also very welcome to just drop in and have a chat, but this doesn’t count towards your hours.

Contact [email protected] to join our mailing list or to let us know if you want to become an at-home crafter.

We have our very own Pinterest page at https://au.pinterest.com/bluecardy/orana-craft-group-ideas/?etslf=7617&eq=orana%20craft%20group so we can keep up with those brilliant craft ideas which help make the Craft Group stall at the Spring Fair so appealing.  Or drop in one day and look at the CG display cabinet in the foyer of the Kurrajong room to see what we’ve been doing recently.

Watch out for our articles through the year in the Leaflet and Seasons to keep up with all the CG news, and keep an eye on this page for any changes to dates.

Term 4 2020 – Getting ready for the inaugural online Spring Fair

The Orana Craft Group would like to extend a very warm welcome to all new and continuing families at Orana School, and invite you to join us in building the community spirit of the school through craft.

This term we will be meeting as a group every Saturday, following the COVID-safe rules provided by the school:

  • § Practice social distancing of 1.5m between people
  • § Do not use any of the Kurrajong supply of cups, plates etc
  • § You can bring your own drinks in a travel mug
  • § No sharing food or drink - so no dips or similar.
  • § Wipe down high touch areas and used bench spaces, tables etc. after use
  • § Do not attend if you are unwell

For these reasons, please bring food and drink for yourself, and (sadly) no children.

Saturday craft days will run from 10 to 1 or a bit later. We'll send a reminder via the mail list in the week before each session and will allocate places on a first come first in basis. So when that email drops into your inbox, RSVP quickly to the CG mailbox and we'll add you to the list of that week's crafters. We will need at least 5 attendees to run a session, so please come as often as you can, and our maximum number will be 15.

We are always keen for new crafters to join us – and we’d love to share the joy of CG more widely through the Orana community.

In the leadup to our first ever online Spring Fair we have a lot of little things to do, including taking photos of our creations (and some videos if anyone is interested in becoming the next Orana star), making twisties, and finishing everything in the unfinished box. We’ll continue working on our dolls heads and sewing up their woolly bodies (and making some clothes for them), as well as making even more felt animals. So there is plenty to do and we'd welcome more hands to do it with us.

If you still have outstanding at home craft, please return it as soon as possible to either the Front Office (call first) or directly back to us on a Saturday.

Please email the craft group mailbox and get on our mailing list to get the latest information on when CG will be happening - this is how we’ll be announcing any last minute changes, and to make sure you are on our Saturday list of crafters if you’d like to come along.

We’re looking forward to meeting you this term at CG!
