Orana High School

The child’s world which was previously experienced through the first two phases of will/play and imaginative/feeling is now seen in a new light; that of the intellect and conceptual thinking. The thinking adolescent is encouraged to use observations, research, conclusions and judgement in the various subject areas.

He/she then meet the rational questions and problems concerning the subject matter or phenomena and is guided in developing the ability to bring resolutions and answers.  Specialist teachers now teach classes so students meet a wider range of expertise and challenge as they work through the timetable. The educational intention is to foster an active, articulate and rounded thinking capacity.

Students participate in a full range of subjects including humanities, languages, arts, mathematics, sciences, technical studies, life skills and sports. Within each subject the student is meeting a different discipline:  thinking is being exercised in diverse ways.   In addition, Orana offers a range of electives to Year 9 and 10 students to allow individuals scope to explore new areas and emerging interests.  The school has significant facilities in art, music, drama, woodwork, science and photography.

Guitar lessons are an elective in High School

Orana launched its first Year 12 in 2002.  A comprehensive Steiner-based curriculum has been developed at Orana and approved by the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies.  A feature of this curriculum is a broad and integrated approach to the Senior College subjects.  The emphasis is on developing a well-rounded student with balanced exposure to arts and sciences, together with a range of electives.

Tax file number

To assist secondary students to obtain a Tax File Number (TFN), students can choose to complete an application through the school. Students may need a TFN to apply for youth allowance or for part-time or holiday employment. This is a voluntary program and is being offered as a service to make it easier for students to obtain a TFN. Application forms are available from the Office, or alternatively if you would like any more information, please contact the Tax Office on 13 28 61.
