Q: Do I need to register or get on a 'waiting list' for Orana School?
A non-refundable Registration
Fee (per family) is paid when you register your children. This
secures your place on the waiting list and you will be notified of vacancies
as they arise.
Q: What
fees must I pay after my children have been accepted to Orana School?
In addition to the Registration Fee, a non-refundable Enrolment Fee
(per family) is paid. This secures the enrolment of your children and they may
attend Orana School.

ages as a guide?

 | Kindergarten
usually starts in the year in which the child turns 6. |
 |

Q: What discounts on fees are available for siblings in Primary or High School?
Discounts are available for your 2nd child onwards. Go to Fees
and Charges for details.
Q: When do the children start to learn another language?
Students learn Japanese from Class 1.
Go to Languages.
Q: Are there buses to the school each morning children can catch?
Yes, there are services direct to and from Orana School by Action, Deane's and
Transborder buses but they obviously cover certain routes and suburbs only. The school office has full details.
Look at Parent handbook for
transportation arrangements.
Q: Is there an open day or festival of some kind that the public can attend
to have a look at the school?
Yes, school tours are
held weekly. Our annual Spring Fair is held in mid-November - see also Calendar
and Parent handbook.
Q: What does Anthroposophical mean?
"Anthroposophy" (from the greek "knowledge of humanity") is
the term Rudolf
Steiner gave to his philosophy aimed at understanding and finding
practical ways of developing the spiritual in everyday life. Steiner
schools do not teach anthroposophy to children but it informs our curriculum
focus and style of teaching. There are a number of websites that are
helpful. One good one to start with is www.bobnancy.com
run by a couple in
the USA who have gathered and translated a lot of Steiner material.
Q: Are there any resources that parents can get hold of to learn more about
"Steiner" and the teaching methods in place?
The "Bob and Nancy" website is a good starting point and from memory
has a
FAQ section. Go to Links for this and
other useful sites. We also have a parent reference section in the Orana
Library.
Q: The issue of computers, I noticed it isn't included. Could you explain the
reasoning behind it please?
Orana has only just concluded its whole-of-school policy about information
literacy. Computer studies will be (and are already) taught in the high
school, and computers as an information tool are already introduced via the
library for Class 3 up, but are not used as a prime teaching tool in the
classroom. Go to Information Literacy.
