Craft Group

Every Friday morning from 9:00am to 12:30pm, we meet in the new Preschool room (please ask at the Front Office for directions) and enjoy a morning of coffee and cake, while creating marvellous items in the Steiner tradition.

Children are always welcome, and enjoy playing in the garden and sandpit, or making felt scrap masterpieces under the tables while we work and chat. And no need to worry if you are all thumbs – there re always plenty of helpers to support you and teach you the tricks that make the craft come together.

We’ve got lots of projects to work on, so if you are an old hand at craft, or if you have never tried DIY Steiner, come and join us – there is no nicer way to earn your community hours than filling the Craft Group stall at the Spring Fair.

Contact [email protected] if you want to join our mailing list, or just drop in one morning for a warm welcome.

Term 3 2017

Wool continues to be our favourite material – and our creations are becoming even more fantastic, as we move into making fleece angels and standing dolls. The angels are perfect gifts for new arrivals, or for anyone who needs a little magic in their lives, while the dolls are great for nature tables or storytelling. We’ll be needle-felting some new items too, which will be innovative additions to the Spring Fair collection. Then we’ll get onto some more sewing with the pillar dolls and walking clown puppets, so there’s really something for everyone this term.

Our CG Pinterest page has some lovely examples of fleece creations (and other amazing craft goodies) which have inspired us in previous years - check it out at

If you have wood-working skills, or want to contribute to Craft Group but can’t make it on Friday mornings, please get in touch with us – your support is really important in our quest to make every Spring Fair better than the one before! While out-of-hours crafting can count towards your hours, we also need to make sure everyone is doing something which will fit the Steiner framework and that we aren’t going to end up with 1000 ducks and no toy boats. So one of the co-ordinators will need to approve anyone doing at-home craft before you can count it for community hours. If you’ve got a brilliant idea for something new, please bring a sample to show us – we love learning more about the creativity of the Orana community.

If you’ve been making things at home for us, this is the term to start returning them, so we can update the CG Spring Fair pricing spreadsheet in less of a rush than last year.

Do you really need more of an incentive than the chance to create beautiful things, chat with interesting and friendly people and learn new skills while your children make new friends and your community hours build up? If so, our café co-ordinator makes the cool days more enjoyable with her secret-recipe chai and hot lemon-and-ginger drinks to combat winter colds. Just remember to put an extra layer on the kids so they can continue to play outside in the lovely surroundings.

So drop in one Friday and find out for yourselves how much fun Craft Group can be (and get a sneak preview on what’s on offer for the Spring Fair this year!).

See you soon!
