About Orana Steiner School
Orana is an independent, co-educational and non-denominational school set in 13 hectares of unique, natural landscape in Weston, ACT, Australia. It was founded in 1981 and has developed in size and reputation with 640 students currently enrolled from Pre-school to Year 12.
As well as providing a challenging and stimulating environment for the study of a complete range of subjects from pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, Orana strives to nourish the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual development of its students.
Orana’s educational philosophy is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian-born scientist, philosopher, artist, and educator and focuses on the growth and development of the whole child. The first Steiner school was established in Stuttgart, Germany in 1919. Now there are over 800 Steiner schools across Europe, Great Britain, the USA, Australasia and beyond. There are over 40 Steiner schools in Australia alone. In addition there is an increasing number of state schools which have incorporated Steiner classes and streams into their mainstream programs to meet the demand from parents.
A Steiner education at Orana provides children with an age-appropriate curriculum that meets the developmental needs of children. Orana respects the essential nature of childhood, enabling children to develop their strengths in a structured and child-sensitive environment.
Steiner once said that: “Our highest endeavour must be to develop individuals who are able out of their own initiative to impart purpose and direction to their lives.” Towards this end Orana sets out to help students grow towards being confident, competent, truthful and creative human beings. It provides its students with a school life which has a balance between discipline and freedom, between academic and creative, and between individual and social development. This holistic approach to child development and education unfolds the full potential of the child.
Orana is a co-educational, non-denominational independent school. However our underlying system of ethics and values is Christian-based.

- - Strive for a balance between academic, artistic and practical learning experiences;
- - Foster an understanding of the human being as informed by Rudolf Steiner;
- - Foster self-confidence in the students;
- - Inspire a healthy respect for and responsibility toward themselves, each other and the environment.
